Update

So, here goes. First, Andy's Dad is doing well and at home again. We had a scare for a bit because his infection wasn't going away. All is well tho. My job is going good, and I'm settling in quite nicely. There should be plenty of work in the fall too, so no worries there really. We had the Alberta Opera at the school today and they did the Frog Prince for us. Very funny stuff. We had our last meeting for Brownies last night. It was our Advancement and we put little flower wreaths on each girls head, wings on their backs and gave them flower wands. We dressed up the pond I made a couple years ago with little toadstools, frogs and butterflies. Very cute stuff. When I say "we" I mean Sherry and I. The other Guider proves to be just a warm body to keep an eye on the kids. Sherry has proven to be invaluable to me for Brownies time and time again. She came up with our theme and bought a lot of the supplies. The girls look to her as more of a Guider than a parent helper. They never question her authority. I just wish she'd make it official. Hey Sherry, you don't have to have an owl name, uniform, or be there every time. Having you around for our meetings and events has been the best thing to happen to our unit since, well, me. LOL! Something to think about anyways, right? You have lots of time....Thank you for all you have done and the certificate too. And you call ME supermom. Okay, enough gushing. Mushy mushy.

Hi ho Hi ho it's off to work I go... and other important stuff

It's official, I'm now a program assistant. I'm not a sub anymore and I just got THAT job, lol. I'm working 5 days a week 6.5 hours a day and I couldn't ask for better hours. The other thing that is happening right now is Andy's dad just went thru the quadruple bypass on Wednesday but he's doing good. He'll be in the hospital for a while but so far, so good. He still needs the surgery for the blood clots to be removed, but one step at a time. As for my citizenship test (yah I'm jumping all over the place, deal with it), I still don't know when I'm going to go in. I'm calling Immigration tomorrow again to see if they know anything. Until then...

Stuff and Junk

So, I am now officially on the sub list for the program assistants at my kids school. I also have my application in to be an actual program assistant, but they said I had to have at least 5 days under my belt to be considered. Today was my second day as a sub! That's right, I've been working the last two days, and I'd go in tomorrow but it's a PD day for our school. If I get full time employment this next little while, I will be a special needs program assistant for a grade one class (which I'm temping in right now). I'm there until the position can be filled (hopefully by me) at the end of next week. Here's hoping! The hours are great (6.5 hrs/day) and I get the same days and holidays off as my kids, how cool is that?
Last night we had our Brownie meeting at another location which was change enough for the girls, but then we also had a special guest. We had an EMT come out and talk to the girls about safety, the equipment he uses, things he does, and a trip out to the ambulance. That's the part the girls really got a kick out of! He even turned on the siren for a little. I took lots of pictures and I'll post them tomorrow. We will be finishing off the guiding year at the end of next month with a camp out in June at my house still. Then I have all summer to plan for the next year. (sigh).....

Happy Easter!

When Easter rolls around, I hear this quite often. "What does the Easter Bunny and chocolate eggs have to do with Jesus?" The plain truth is, well, nothing at all. And I'm glad for that. Easter with Jesus is just like Christmas with Jesus. It's a blending of different celebrations. Granted, the christian one is a lot more morbid than the pagan one (ie: the crucifixion and junk). The pagan Easter holiday celebrates the renewal of nature. Trees are budding, tulips are emerging, grass is getting a little greener. Rabbits are making bunnies, chickens make chicks....Hence the baby bunnies and chicks at Easter time. The Easter eggs that kids find in their baskets and hidden all over the place weren't always chocolate, but who wants to eat a dozen hardboiled eggs? Give me chocolate any day. I think it's a nice touch and a good trade off, personally. So, what does Easter have to do with Jesus? Nothing. Have a happy Easter!

My Dress

So, my dress is here and....well....it's rather.....GORGEOUS and it fits!!! So all we have to do is wait for the upcoming nuptuals to take place in Alberta in June....Seems so far away now that I'm ready for it! LOL!

Stressed out and no one to choke....

So I have decided to rejoin the work force if "fate" decides it is to be. By that I mean if I get hired. I am going to apply at my kids school as a sub for a teachers aide. This means I will be put on a list of subs and will be on call for any time during the school day. Usually they go down the list until they find someone willing to come in, but sometimes people get called in by the teachers request. I am already known at the school from volunteer work (and my delicious baking, mwah hah hah...which reminds me, I have some baking to do), so hopefully this will lead to being an actual teachers aide come fall when school starts up for the new year. My other option right now is to apply at the local Dollar Store, but I'd rather work at the school because the hours would be perfect for me. Other jobs might require child care and I don't want to put my kids in child care for two big reasons: 1) We can't afford it and our tax bracket says we can't be subsidized and 2) I'm not having my kids watched by someone else especially the daycare or dayhomes in this town. I have my reasons for not liking the childcare system in my town, but that's another story. Anyway, I have to go back Monday to talk to the lady who gives out the applications and get one then. I know it's not a steady job and it may not pick up for quite some time, but it is something I would like to do and I just need to get my foot in the door and right now I only have a toe in the door, LOL. Time will tell........

Henna!

After we had Sherry do henna tattoos on the girls at Brownies, she gave me one of the bags to take home....Well, today I did a couple on the kids and they turned out awesome! And I did it free hand (with the picture to guide me).Sherry has mentioned needing her right hand done, and I'd like to do it for her now that I had a little practice. This stuff is so cool! Now, what to do on me...hmmm..........................

What's new

So last week I finally recieved the letter from Immigration Canada that I was waiting for. It said I had to be in Calgary on April 2nd at 8(freakin'):30 in the morning to take the citizenship test. Yah, not happening. I called Immigration the next day to let them know that Calgary is a 5-6 hour drive from where I live, and that I am closer to Edmonton. They said they will arrange for me to take the test in the Edmonton office. So now I have to wait again for a new letter stating when and where(address) to take my citizenship test. My mom and brother are just about ready to send in their applications and then it will be another couple of years before they become citizens. As for me, I have another 6-10 months of waiting after I take the test before I take my oath and get sworn in as a citizen. It's been a long time coming, I tell yah! If you think you are so smart and know all there is to know about being Canadian, I dare you to take the test. I usually get 100%, do you??

And more drama....

As it turns out, Jessica's friend wants her to stay onboard with the project. It's more like a report than a project tho. Anyway's one of the girls was ousted from the group because she went home and did up the exact thing that was already printed up and had nothing new to add. This is completely unorganized and ill planned, but I took Jessica and friend(who did work) to the open house for the science fair and showed them what their project is supposed to look like judging from all of the other entrees. Jess wants to go solo next year and is already conjuring up all kinds of ideas for it. I told the girls to take a good look at what all the other kids did with their projects and take note. This is what the judges expect. Now Jessica has to deal with a girl who no longer wishes to be her friend ( or the other girls for that matter) because she feels excluded. I told Jess to just go about her day and treat this girl like she would have any other day. It will pass. Feelings were hurt, apologies were made...friendships will mend.

Science Fair drama...

Jessica had decided to do a project for the science fair with a friend of hers this year. Her friend decided (or maybe he wasn't allowed) not to do the project, so Jessica decided to not enter it either. Then yesterday she was helping another group with their project when they asked her to join them and do up the design for them. She had agreed to do this, not realizing that the project was due TODAY. That's right. Only one of these girls besides Jessica had actually done any work and that was a one sheet mini report. Jessica got a phone call from one of the other girls in the group asking if she had done it yet because it was due for March 1st and Jessica panicked. This other girl hadn't done anything for this project and she was placing the responsibility on Jessica. So, I called Jessica's teacher and got the straight goods on what was going on. In the end we told Jessica to give back the project stuff to the girl who actually did the work (we had it typed up and Jess already did the title by hand) and just say "sorry, but I just cannot do this project with you since I only joined you yesterday. But here is some of it done up nice for you as my apology." Hopefully this will ease some of the tention, and the teacher will be there with her when this is discussed. When we got into the school, one of the girls in the group (who did nothing) was standing there and saw Jess come in with the display board. She asked Jessica if she had finished it and I said "Don't even start" to her. She looked really surprised at me and Jess asked me why I yelled at her (I didn't). I told her I didn't want her to talk to her first. This girl has a bad habit of running off at the mouth and lying about everything. She gets it from her mother (Heather, you know who this girl is). So, when we got to Jessica's locker she started to go on and on about how the other girls didn't even do any of it and that little mouthpiece was standing behind her soaking up every word. I kept telling Jess to stop it and she just wouldn't. The vice principal gave us a look cause I'm sure I looked angry at that point but I was embarrassed for Jessica and trying to stop a complete social disaster for her. I leaned in and said "she is standing right behind you, so I'd advise you to stop it right now". Honestly, this is just completely stupid and I'm so glad that I'm not in school anymore!! I just feel bad for Jessica because I just know these girls are going to blame her for not getting their work done. Next year it's manditory and I told Jessica she does NOT need a partner for a project. If she chooses one, it should not be based on friendship, but partnership. Hopefully she will learn from this mistake and do it differently next year. I'm fed up. I'm going to go have a hot bath and try to relax because I'm all tense now. Dammit.

So, Heather tells me that they put a bid on a house in my town and I am so excited! I mean, I haven't seen her since a couple of summers ago and my family and I miss her and the kids tremendously. I hope the deal works out, cause that would mean she'd come back! Our daughters are going crazy from missing each other too. Jess is worried that Kara is going to be too grown up for her since they are 2 years apart. Kara is going thru some adolescent changes, but Jess is not so far behind. I know that they will fall back into their friendship as easily as Heather and I will. Next month when income tax comes in, I'm going to buy that dress that looks like Kara's for the wedding since it's only 2 months or so away and shipping can take forever. I can't wait for Heathers big move, and the wedding, and the karaoke..oops, did I say karaoke? How'd that slip out? Tee hee. I can't wait to show Heather the progress I've made on the guitar too. I'm really glad that we never lost contact after her move. Our friendship has endured this long, and I just know that it's one that will last a long long time. Hope to see you soon Heather!!!!

Something Important I Forgot to Mention...

About a week ago, I finally sent a letter off to my Bio-Dad in Scotland. I haven't heard from him for probably a year and a half at least. So with this letter, I also sent him a CD with my families pictures from the last 2 years. I also sent him a tape of me singing several different songs. He's never heard me sing before and being as he is in a band (he sings and plays the guitar and also plays the bagpipes) I thought he might be interested in hearing what I sound like. If he gets it. My sister Linda (who last I heard, still lives there) has some issues with me for some reason and I'm not sure if he has recieved the other stuff I have sent. This is a last ditch effort to connect with him, if not for me then for my kids. This is the letter I sent to him:

Dear Dad,

I have tried e-mailing you and every one of my e-mails has been returned as unable to send. I haven't heard from you in quite a while and when I do, it's sporadic. We don't have the relationship that either of us need as father and daughter. I have always wanted to know about you, not necessarily about you and my mother. I know that I have a lot of questions and it may seem overwhelming to you. Please understand, I'm just trying to learn about you. I am now 32 years old and the need to know you has only gotten stronger. Both Al and I have been soaking up our Scottish heritage as of late and trying to pass on some pride in that to our children. We would like to be able to incorporate our knowledge of you with what we have been sharing with our children so far. I miss your letters. I'm not asking you for explanations, I'm just asking you to share yourself with my family and me. My children are grateful for the gifts they have received over the years, but they would rather have a relationship with their grandfather. Right now we are all missing out on a very important and vital part of our lives. You need to get to know your grandchildren as much as they need to get to know you. I understand that the distance between us seems like a barrier, but it is only a barrier if we let it be. I'm sending you a disc of pictures that we have taken over the last two years so that you can see how Jessica and Zachary have grown. I know that you once told me that if there was anything I wanted to know, just ask. It's hard to know exactly what to ask. Please write me back. Thank you.

Your Daughter,

Natalie

How I got two units....

I may have covered this before, but here is how I got the two Brownie Units...Last summer I was asked to run the afternoon Brownie unit (newly made) and I said okay. When we had our registration night, the other Brownie leader was so disappointed in her numbers she decided after that she did not have enough Brownies to continue with her (evening) unit. She said that two Brownies was just not worth it. I think that every girl is worth it. It made me so mad!! Anywho, I was asked to help with the evening Brownies, which turned out to be three girls, and I ended up taking over. So now I have the two units with 8 girls in total.
